Bible Question: Where in the Bible does it indicate that Jesus went down to Hell for the three days before the Resurrection? |
Bible Answer: Hello Water Chief, Consider this..... Jesus was not in Hell for 3 days and nights but was laid in the tomb(heart of the earth)for 3 days and nights. Could it be that Jesus was in the depths of Hell while there was complete darkness for 3 hours? Matthew 27:45-46 "Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me"? In order to die a sinners death, Jesus had all sin cast upon him, this was done while he was on the cross and during those 3 dark hours is when he went down to hell to defeat death. Now this was no doubt a darkness much more than an eclipse could put out, one in which a person couldn't see his hand directly in front of him. Notice too how Jesus said that he thirsted after those 3 hours. One really doesn't thirst unless it's hot out and if there was complete darkness, then it was most likely not hot outside. He thirsted because he was in Hell. He cried out " My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me" because God could not look upon his son while he was made to be sin and in Hell. Love in Christ! Barry |
