Bible Question:
My coworker repeatedly takes the name of the Lord in vain. It upsets me to hear it, but worse still, he told me that there is nothing wrong in using the name of God instead of swearing. Can anyone give me scripture to print out for him? I got Matthew 12:36 and Exodus 20:7 so far. My coworker told me that I am "lost" and completely wrong on this issue. I just want him to stop doing something so offensive to the Lord. Many thanks! Linda |
Bible Answer: I think both of the scriptures you have listed are sufficient evidence that one needs to be careful with their tongue. Although, I would say that quoting this coworker scripture will most likely not have the desired effect. I would be more concerned with the condition of your coworker's soul than their current action. If your coworker is proclaiming to be a Christian, then quoting those scripture would be the way of showing them the error of their thinking. Yet, if your coworker is not saved, then quoting scripture will most likely do very little to change their thoughts on this matter. The important step is to intercede on their behalf on your knees. Trying to change a person on our own will most likely fail, but the Holy Spirit can change the person from the inside out. As Christians, we encounter many things that are offensive. Should we take them lying down? No, but we need to make sure that we are approaching them in the love that Christ has shown us. It sounds that you could have a real opportunity to show the love of Christ to this person and hopefully through your light shining, your coworker can come into the light of Christ. |
