Bible Question:
my question(s) concern the phrase "blasphemy against the Spirit" which is mentioned in Matthew 12:31-32 Question 1 - is this something that a saved person or an unsaved person commits? Question 2 - Wouldn't it be necessary to first know, or have the indwelling presence of the Spirit within you before you can blaspheme Him? |
Bible Answer: Greetings New Creature, "blasphemy against the Spirit" (Matt. 12:31-32; Mark 3:29-30) "Question 1 - is this something that a saved person or an unsaved person commits?" I believe that only an unsaved person who has no knowledge of God or how He works could ever possibly entertain the idea of ascribing to Satan the works of the Holy Spirit. Anyone who does this clearly does not know how the Holy Spirit works, not to mention having the Spirit living within them and conducting their life. "Question 2 - Wouldn't it be necessary to first know, or have the indwelling presence of the Spirit within you before you can blaspheme Him?" No. In fact, I believe that it is the very absence of the Holy Spirit in a person's life that would lead a person to go so far as to blaspheme against God by ascribing to Satan what is done by the hand of God. Blessings to you, Makarios |
