Bible Question: In Matt 11vs 14, is Jesus saying that John the Baptist was Elijah??????

Bible Answer: Hello jbw,

Basically, the answer is yes. Understand that it's not literally Elijah but rather as the angel told Zechariah before John was born:

Luke 1:17 (ESV)
and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.

My thoughts are that Elijah himself will return before the Lord comes back in power to reign on this earth.
