Subject: Was Peter denied before the Father? |
Bible Note: Yes, we can deny Him, but this would mean that we were never truly saved to begin with. Our Lord gave an example of 'reinstating' Peter as a disciple and apostle, since Peter denied Christ three times (John 21:15-17). While denying Christ, Peter was not totally rejecting Christ or against accepting Him as Lord and Savior, since Peter previously acknowledged the true nature of Christ in Matthew 16:15-18 and in John 6:66-69. What Peter is doing is 'falling away', something which all the disciples were guilty of (Matthew 26:31-35). And when Jesus returns, He forgives them, even calls them 'brethren' (Matt. 28:10), and recommissions them (Matt. 28:18-20). Our Lord gives an example that we can come back to Him if we first fail, or sin, and need to be cleansed of that, which is something that He already paid for on the cross. But in no way does any disciple completely reject or deny Christ, which is what Matthew 10:33 is talking about. In fact, we see the disciples doing the exact opposite in the book of Acts! :-) We see how zealous they are for God! Blessings, Nolan |
