AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 10:14 "Whoever does not welcome you, nor listen to your message, as you leave that house or city, shake the dust [of it] off your feet [in contempt, breaking all ties]. [Mark 6:11; Acts 13:51] |
Bible Question: how do you overcome fear of failure to get on with the workings of God? and how do you exert your authority in boldness for Christ if you fear failing? How do you stop a wandering mind from wondering whether in prayer or just reading the Word? I know the scripture that God doesn't give us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind, why am I so fearful, am I not trusting God enough to handle all my situations? |
Bible Answer: Df3blessed: When Jesus sent out the Twelve [Matt. 10:5-15], He knew in advance that their presence would not always be welcome, their efforts not always fruitful. "If the household is worthy," He said, "let you peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you." He went on to say that "whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, whenever you depart from that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet." The act of shaking off dust from the feet was a Jewish way of expressing protest or disdain in a visible manner. I believe that the lesson Jesus is teaching for us modern-day workers in His vineyard is two-fold: [1] Recognize that you and all your fellow workers will face opposition, rejection, scorn, persecution and even, in some parts of the world, physical danger or even death. [2] But keep on trying, keep persevering, shake the dust off your feet and keep on going..... It's a big order, yes. But Jesus never promised freedom from trials and persecution that would be inflicted upon us for His sake. But He did promise to be with us always [Matt.28:20]. We have the unbreakable promise of God that He will never leave us or forsake us. [Heb. 13:5] --Hank |
