Bible Question:
We all know what the word "Bible" stands for. But, where does the word "Bible" have its orgin, and meaning from? Justme |
Bible Answer: Hello, Justme - The English word 'bible,' not unlike many other English words, has a long and interesting etymology, as Doc has noted. But the word is not applied only to the sacred Scriptures of Christians but to any publication that is preeminent, especially in authoritativeness, such as "the fisherman's bible." Now it strikes one as being a bit odd that a secular work, e.g., a fisherman's bible, would be considered authoritative and its content rarely challenged, if indeed challenged at all, while busy-bodied fools of every generation have pecked at the Holy Bible like chickens pecking at grains of corn in a vain effort to prove it false. They, many of them have already passed away, and all who follow them will in turn pass away, but praise be to God, the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endureth to all generations (cf. Psalm 100:5). ...... Good to hear from you once again, Justme. I pray that you are well. --Hank |
