Bible Question: what is faith |
Bible Answer: Hi Lombardo, Who is faith is a better place to start! To understand faith we must understand the source of all "good" things is God the Father. James 1:17. Therefore if something is good, the source of the good is God the Father. Question: is righteousness good? It comes from its source, God the Father. Question: is faith good? It comes from God the Father. Now look at Ro 9:30-33 The Gentiles, who were all the other nations except the Jews, did not follow God's righteousness, his words. They didn't even have access to God's word. God had given his word to the Jews only. God's word is his righteousness, expressed in words. It is his way of thought, word and deeds, how he conducts all of heaven, it's government, the planets, and every created thing he has made. It is his faithfulness and love toward his creation. Can you imigine, if God was not faithful and loving, what it would be like to get up and there be no sun in the sky? If he were not faithful, the sun may or may not come up, but he is faithful. You can always depend on God to do his part! He does what he does, because he doesn't just have love, he is love I John 4:8 and he doesn't just have light, he is light I John 1:5. This is God's righteousness, his faithfulness and love, that does these things. But God had his servant, Moses, write down his "law" of righteousness, his way, truth, and life (-style). Ro 9:30 called the "law of righteousness" which is the law of God himself. He is righteousness, he doesn't just have righteousness. Ro 9:31 says Israel did not attain to the law of righteousness...(they didn't obey God completely) Ro 9:32 says Why? Because they sought it not by faith, but by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. Who was the stumblingstone? I Peter 2:6-8 tells us the stumblingstone is the precious one, Jesus Christ himself. He says the reason they stumbled was they stumbled at the word, BEING DISOBEDIENT; God needed one obedient man so he could build the church, or the body of Christ, the anointed ones, the believers . Eph 1:20-23... that man was Jesus Christ Phil 2:5-11...up to that time there had been no man, either Jew or Gentile that had completely obeyed God. That was all the people from Adam to Jesus in the Bible! All the people of the earth. Because Jew and Gentile made up all of the people of the earth, where was God going to get people for the building of the church? From the only source there is, Jew and Gentile, who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and are born of the Spirit of God, into the body of Christ, named "the church" who are believers in Jesus, the stumblingstone. Ro 9:33 Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever BELIEVES ON HIM (Jesus) shall not be ashamed. Ro 9:30 Therefore, Jesus is faith! We must believe on him to be saved, he is the stumblingstone, and rock of offence. At that time no man believed on him, when he was crucified, but when he was raised from the dead, and God sent the Holy Spirit through, Jesus, the baptizer with the Holy Spirit, John 1:33, 36 then mankind was able to begin to believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living God. Notice Jesus said, Luke 24:49 Behold I (Jesus) send the promise of my Father upon you: Notice who the promise is and Jesus is the one who will send the promise: John 1:33, Acts 1:5, 8 , Acts 2:4, Acts 2:33... Acts 2:33 identifies who the promise is, it is the Holy Spirit that God had told John in John 1:33, 36, that Jesus would baptize with, and this was "after" not before, Jesus was raised from the dead. Why? John 16:7 If I (Jesus) go not away, the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) will not come unto you: but if I (Jesus) depart, I (Jesus) will SEND HIM (THE HOLY SPIRIT) UNTO YOU. That agrees with John 1:33, 36 and the other scriptures. See next post continued |
