Bible Question: Why is the book of Matthew the only book that starts with the genealogy of Jesus? |
Bible Answer: Matthew was written prinmarilaly for Jewish Christians and potential Jewish believers in Christ. The geneology of Jesus as the Son of Abraham and Son of David establishes the credentials that Jesus is of the lineage of Abraham and David which the Messiah or Christ must be. This was extremely important to the Jews looking for the Messiah. Matthew 1:11 "The book of the geneology of Jesus, the Messiah (Christ, annointed)the son of David, the son of Abraham." |
