Bible Question: Why was a nazarite forbidden from consuming grape products? |
Bible Answer: Nazarites took a special vow to separate themselves from the pleasures of flesh, represented by wine or anything that came from a vine. Much like a high priest, they were not permitted to make themselves unclean for being near a dead body, even if it were one of the immediate family. His hair is not cut during the entire duration of the vow, but at the end of it, the hair is cut off and burned along with the rest of the Nazarite's sacrifice. This signifies that everything the Nazarite did was a sacrifice out of love for God. Also, at the end of their vow, they had a meal whose symbolism amounts to God being there to eat with them.
