Bible Answer: God's day to you, mamawkat, and welcome to the SBF, Numbers 31 could be titled Executing the LORD'S Vengeance on the Midianites (vs 2) ... for what they did to Israel. Read Numbers 22ff. The booty was divided in half - the 120,000 soldiers got half and those left behind got the other half. David followed the same principle (1Sa 30:9-25). There was a 1/500 tax that given to the Eleazar, the high priest as an offering to the Lord (it was not for him) from the soldiers' half, and a 1/50 tax to the Levite from the other half.
