Bible Question: It seems as though the new trend in some churches is flag ministry. I was wondering were this idea has come from. I can understand the symbolizm that people could assign to it, but where does the meaning of the colors come from. Almost every color has a meaning and no verse to back it up. |
Bible Answer: Word study ... banner/ standard - degel ........ The word is degel and is translated banner or standard. It appears 13 times in Numbers, and is to distinguish the tribes, as we will see in the parade of nations for the Olympics. It is NEVER used in praise or worship ... no matter how much people change the meaning of the latter. We see a one other use of the word: "He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love" (SoS 2:4). People also want to assign colors - but do they use what they Bible says? I think the idea is for showmanship, feeling and other things. So they do not have to get on their face and knees - prostrate before God, which is worship. |
