Bible Question:
How long should the Isrealites journey to the promised land taken them? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Jeanne01, According to Numbers 14:22, the LORD rebuked stubborn Israel for putting Him to the test by only allowing Joshua and Caleb to see the land of their inheritance (the promised land). Even Moses (Deut. 34:4) was not allowed to enter into the promised land. Therefore, according to Numbers 14:34, the Israelites would not enter the promised land for another 40 years, so that only the younger generation would be able to enter the promised land. So, if you ask 'how long SHOULD the Israelites' journey have taken?', the answer, according to the book of Numbers, would be 40 years less than what it actually was (see also Psalm 95:7-11, Hebrews 3:7-4:1 and Acts 7:42). Bible scholars traditionally put the date of the exodus from Egypt at around 1446 B.C., and the date of Israel's invasion of the promised land at around 1406 B.C. Blessings to you, Makarios |
