Bible Question: why was the lord angry at Miriam and Aron for not speaking against Moses. |
Bible Answer: Hi, eager! The problem with Miriam and Aaron was that they were hiding behind the excuse of Moses taking a non-Hebrew wife. Their true intent was power!: They said, 'Is Moses the only one through whom Yahweh has spoken? Has he not spoken through us too?' Yahweh heard this. (Numbers 12:2) As many believers throughout history, they were not interested in Moses' transgressions as part of the Body... they simply used the opportunity to place into question his leadership and authority. Their zealousness was not for Yahweh; rather their ulterior motive was sharing the "power"--which, in their minds, they had just as much right to possess as Moses did. In their blind thirst for control they ignored the fact that it was Yahweh who commissioned Moses as the prophet and leader of Israel. (Exodus 3:1 thru 4:31) Not only that but God Himself exalted Moses above all of the poeple (both Egyptians and Israelites), not because Moses desired to have authority over them but because he was Yahweh's representative: Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Look, I have made you as a god for Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron is to be your prophet. (Exodus 7:1) But Moses's authority was limited to his office (God's representative): You must say whatever I command you... (Exodus 7:2) What Miriam and Aaron were doing was nothing shorter than an attempt to depose Moses from his office and usurp Yahweh's authority! God Bless! Angel |
