Bible Question: Is there anywhere in the bible that discusses what someone who lives on a fixed income should do about tithes when all their income goes to food and living expenses? Thanks, prayon |
Bible Answer: See also Galatians 3:9-11. Tithing is optional under the new covenent. It was required under the law in the old testament. Christians are not bound by the law. However I would encourage you to set a goal to give to God and His work. The amount is up to you. Giving is a Christian dicipline encouraged by Jesus. A tithe is 10 percent which is a good goal but you have the freedom in Christ to set whatever goal you desire. Matthew 6 2 "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 3 "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. |
