Bible Question:
COULD SOME ONE PLEASE EXPLAIN MALACHAI 3 VS 8 TO 10 TO ME |
Bible Answer: The verses of Malachi 3:8-10 are in answer to the question posed by the errant Israelites in vs. 7: "In what way shall we return?" (to God's way). In a departure from the normal biblical pattern of God's dealing with His disobedient children, the people were invited to put God to the test, "and try Me now in this" (vs. 10). If they would honor God by reversing their robbery, i.e., by resuming their tithing, He promised to pour out for them blessings in abundance. The nation was a theocracy, and the tithes were used to fund the theocracy and were therefore synonymous with taxes in a secular government. The storehouse named in vs. 10 was a room in the temple known as the temple treasury wherein were stored the tithes of crops and animals brought in by the people. --Hank |
