Bible Question:
when is divorce ok in God's sight? why is divorce taken so lightly these days? |
Bible Answer: Hi, starbright! Sadly, Christians are as bad as non-Christians when it comes to coupling... they seek the same values, mostly: superficial beauty (including the plastic enhancements to the body), independence from the parents, active sexual life, instant gratification, what the Jones' have... and just to further complicate matters, we live our Christianity just as superficially: concerned with the values of the world and how to please the world! So we are constantly searching for quick-fixes... divorce (as abortion) is just one of those fixes! Never mind that Jesus made it clear that Christians should not avail themselves of this instrument of Satan (Matthew 19:3-9; 5:27-28, 31-32)... we surrender to our covetousness and thusly reject God's Command for the sake of the world's corrupt principles. This attitude (circumventing God's Command and choosing the world's principles) is so prevalent amongst Christians that husbands are abusing (both physically and emotionally) their wives and then using Scripture to keep them subject to their abuse. Christ stated that a man and a woman become one flesh... this means that both husband and wife love each other in Christ; they build each other in Christ; they edify society through their examples as Christian lovers; they edify their Children by loving and protecting each other; they overcome the world's vices by surrendering to each other in Christ! But when "Christians" choose to obey the world rather than Christ, have they not ceased being a light to the world? Have they not forfeited all of their Christian rights? Is Christ not speaking to them when He says: Revelation 3:14-19 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. God Bless! Angel |
