Bible Question: What is the ephah that is going forth in Zechariah 5:6? |
Bible Answer: Hi, MsVdez... Welcome to the forum! An ephah, in this context, was a container used to measure out grain -- in the US today we use the word bushel. In other words, the ephah was a unit of measure for dry goods like grains. The emphasis in this passage is not the container itself, but the figurative contents of the container. The gist of this vision is that God Himself will remove the wickedness from Judea. It seems to me that it would have an immediate prophetic sense to the historical context of Zechariah, as well as a more distant prophetic fulfillment in how God will deal with the Church (i.e., the Body of Christ).
