AMPLIFIED 2015 | Zechariah 14:4 In that day His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives, which lies before Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in half from the east to the west by a very large valley, and half of the mountain will move toward the north and half of it toward the south. Bible Question: What is the preterist view of the coming of the LORD to the earth as described in Zech. 14:4 to the end of the chapter? |
Bible Answer: mark, This response to your question is extremely abbreviated. All the Early Church Fathers interpreted Zech 14:4 as happening in the first century. Tertullian connected it to the Agony in the Garden. The splitting of Mt. Olivet is explained as the split within Judaism caused by Jesus. There was no longer Jew and Gentile, but now only Christian and non Christian. The Great Battle was the Passion of Christ in which He was victorious. The split is between the Old Covenmant and the New Covenant. Paul and John both address these new categories of Christian and non Christians in the New testament. May I suggest a book on the subject of the rapture. it is: Rapture: The End Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind by David Currie Sophia Institute Press He devotes an entire Appendix chapter to Zechariah and its meaning and relationship to Daniel. He also deals with evry other passage of scripture used to support the rapturist position. In addition he address the problems of hyperpreterism. It is a powerful book by one who held the rapturist position into his forties. It is written in a pleasant and charitable, not shrill, style. Ht opens with a presentation and defense of the rapturist position for 221 pages and then moves on the oppposing view. 475 pages total. The best and most thorough book on the subject that I have seen. Emmaus |
