Bible Question:  In Zechariah 12:12-14, it says several times "every family by itself will mourn." What does this mean?

Bible Answer:  Hi Cooldamashai,

Welcome to the Forum!

"every family by itself, and their wives by themself."

I can only give you my opinion of this, I am not aware of any scripture that gives further information.

I believe this speaks of personal, individual mourning.

There is a time of national mourning, such as the death of a beloved king, or a national disaster.

This will be the mourning of each one of Israel who, having rejected Jesus as their personal Savior and Messiah, now recognize it was Him all along. They will have seen the great tragedy brought because of their rejection, and the grace that was always available, and they will mourn.

Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

I hope this helps.

Love in Christ,
Mark
