Bible Question: That is not the wedding vows I am talking about I'm talking about where it says in sickness and in health so those wedding vows? Sincerely Jill Smith! prayerw57@bellsouth.net |
Bible Answer: Greetings Jill Smith! An agreement is necessary for walking together (Amos 3:3), and we must be faithful to our wives (Malachi 2:15), and the marriage bed kept pure (Hebrews 13:4). The husband and wife are not to deprive themselves of each other (1 Corinthians 7:1-7), and the marriage relationship should be one of love (1 Peter 3:1-7; Titus 2:3-5; Colossians 3:18,19; Proverbs 5:18-20). The bride gives her consent to the marriage (Genesis 24:58; 1 Sam. 25:19-43), and the husband confirms the vows of the wife (Numbers 30:10-15). But even though Scripture does not specifically spell out "keep in sickness and in health", it does say in Ephesians 5:22-33 that "husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself." And I believe that the marriage vows that are expressed today are done so in the very spirit of Ephesians 5:22-33. Blessings to you, Makarios |
