AMPLIFIED 2015 | Leviticus 26:1 'You shall not make idols for yourselves, nor shall you erect an image, a sacred pillar or an obelisk, nor shall you place any figured stone in your land so that you may bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God. |
Bible Question: How would this chapter be interpreted through the lens of the New Testament and grace? |
Bible Answer: Simply put, we should have no physical or conceptual idols. A physical idol is when we liken anything in the creation to the creator. We raise the creation to the level of the creator and seek satisfaction in those things apart from the creator. A conceptual or mental idol is when we have a conception or misconception that is false about God. The contrast in this verse is that we should know who the Lord our God is. Now the question is how can we know this? |
