Bible Question:
what would be a description and purpose of First fruit in Lev 23:9-14 ? and also decription of pentecost and its purpose also decussed in Lev. thanks |
Bible Answer: Greetings InGodsWill! Firstfruits in Leviticus 23:9-14 symbolized the consecration of the whole harvest to God, and was a pledge of the harvest to come. It was a dedication of the very first part of the harvest, and its purpose was to give praise to God for the harvest. For more on 'first fruit' please read Exodus 16, 29 and Numbers 28. The meaning of the word "Pentecost" is 'fifty days.' This festival took place fifty days after Firstfruits. The purpose of Pentecost is described in Numbers 28:26 and Leviticus 23:16: a dedication to God of the first portion of the harvest, now being gathered fifty days after its dedication.
