Bible Question:
I am not certain that homosexual desires are in themselves sinful. It appear to me that it is in the practice of it where the sin is committed. In the thread that dealt with the temptations experienced by our Lord Jesus the consensus was that mere temptation did NOT constitute sin. Am I off base? Hobbs |
Bible Answer: Greetings Hobbs! James 1:14-15 (NASB) 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. The temptation is not sin but it does reveal the sinful nature in my opinion. The lust spoken of in James 1:14 begins within the person. There is ownership here that points to the source of the temptation being the person. Our own lust entices us. We tempt ourselves with our own evil desires. So when our own lust has conceived it is then we move from the temptation to sin. The big question is at what point does this take place? I'm not so sure I know how to answer that one correctly but I'm going to put my thoughts on it out there. It's one of those areas I'm not so sure I can put my finger on so to speak but would be interested in hearing your thoughts or others thoughts on the question. So, considering this passage of scripture and the question "Do homosexual tendencies constitute sin?" I would think that if one can be tempted by homosexual tendency then his sinful nature harbors lust for such a thing. As I understand it, I would also think that the lust is conceived and gives birth to the sin long before the homosexual act occurs. Your thoughts? God bless, Steve |
