Bible Question:
what is meant by the statement "for the dead" |
Bible Answer: At funerals, the Egyptians and Assyrians cut their hair and the Hebrews had adopted this practice. They also cut their bodies. Marks were often made with a hot iron, representing false gods, as if to declare that they would serve them forever. This was done in mourning for the dead. What Moses was forbidding here was acts being done in honor of some idol. |
