Bible Question: Leviticus 15:29-30 mentions offering two young pigeons for an offering after a period of uncleanness. Was this just for extended periods like childbirth and disease not related to menstruation, or did it also apply to regular menstruation? In other words, did healthy women offer pigeons monthly when they were not pregnant? If they did, did someone raise pigeons just for this purpose? |
Bible Answer: Lev. 15:25–30 These verses deal with some secretion of blood indicating disease, not menstruation, requiring a sin and burnt offering after she is well. MacArthur, J. J. (1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed.) (Le 15:25). Nashville: Word Pub. But yes there were merchants that did nothing but raise animals for sacrifice. If a person lived far from Jerusalem he would take his sacrifice and sell it then travel to Jerusalem and using that money buy another to sacrifice. These merchants set up shop outside the temple. Remember Jesus later got angry with them because instead of being outside they had actually moved into the temple. Sort of today's thinking Location location location by being inside the temple it was suggestted they were more aproved by the priest and closer to God. I'm sure they paid for the their table space. |
