Bible Question: The Bible says to refrain from "strong drink" what does it mean. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Shortfed! The Biblical admonition to refrain from "strong drink" is found initially in Lev. 10:9, which states.. "Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations," [NKJV] Are you speaking of drinking socially, or does your question involve being totally under the influence of alcohol? Chances are that your question(s) have already been addressed in this Forum's archives. You can do a search at the right. I can list many Biblical examples and personal examples of how alcohol misuse has claimed the lives of two of my relatives, and has caused untold grief throughout human history. The misuse of anything in God's creation is sin, and the misuse of alcohol causes especially serious problems socially, morally, and spiritually. My advice is to avoid it totally. Abstinence was required of the priests in Lev. 10:9, and listed as part of the requirements in taking a Nazirite vow (Num. 6:3). Blessings to you, Makarios |
