Subject: The Ordination of Women |
Bible Note: Searcher:This is a question many churches are facing today, and there is no easy answer. I would ask what does this lady feel she is being called to do? Is she prepared to go to seminary to make her axe as sharp as she can be? I was an American Baptist that encourages women to become Pastors. Their belief is females are open for any position in the church. As a whole most American Baptist Churches agree with this policy. Some do notand are not required to follow these guides. In Southerd Baptist a Divorced person is very limited as to what they are allowed to do. But with SBC each church is independant and makes up their own guides. I personally feel if this is causing such srtife that perhaps the lady needs to go to a church that is open to ordaining of women, rather than cause such a division in the church. Your pastor might well be the person to follow through in tring to seek a solution for all concerned. The United States still has a long way to go in accepting women as pastors as equal to men. The number of churches that allow women to serve as Elders and Deacons, is not widely accepted either. The genuineness of this ladies call will be proven by the call from the Lord being manisfested by the call of the church. To ask to be ordained before one has a ministry seems backwards. Usually the church calling the person, will have a time of watching then if found worthy they conduct and ordination comittee question time. If the person is able to present the required writings and theoligacial statements, and is accepted by the questioning comittee. Then they are recommended for ordination. Usually Probation or a tempoary Certificate of Ministry is given before Ordination takes place. For those who are American Baptist this is a lengthy strenious ordeal. Just being ordained has spiritual responsibilities that one must be very sure of. I hope this helps. justme |
