Bible Question: Are 'backsliders', or people who are turning from the faith, saved in their present condition of backsliding? |
Bible Answer: Nolan, Verse 7b is interesting. The NIV says "He by no means will exalt them." I lean toward the NAS/AV. The context is about God's love for Israel. No matter what they did: Baal (v 2), not realizing He healed them (v 3), refusing to repent (v 5), turning from Him (v 7) ... He will not give the up (v 9), treat Israel like others (v 8), carry out His anger (v 9), just as He has done in the past (vv 1-4). However, He will destroy the bars of the gates and put an end to their plans (v 6). Isarel did backslide from God, even to the point of calling on Him with empty words, that is not exalting Him. Nonetheless, no matter what He did-He never compelety will ever wipe them out. The context of the book of Hosea, is Hosea's love for Gomer. As many times as she has played a whore, he loved her and brought her back. While he could of divorced her, his heart was not hard. There are other passages that talk about Israel's sin and her deserved punishment, by God ... and his continual love for her, |
