Bible Question: Thanks Doc, What I'm wondering, though is more how MATTHEW knew that it was a messianic prophesy. Seems he could've just been trying to "fit" Jesus to a scripture and declare that it was a prophesy. Do we have any knowledge that this was a known messianic prophesy before Matthew said it was? |
Bible Answer: Dear Stevia, Here's another Biblical principle: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV) Consequently, when Matthew wrote his Gospel, it was under the inspiration (i.e., theopneustos, "God Breathed") of the Holy Spirit. This is what we mean by the doctrine of the verbal plenary inspiration of the Bible. In Him, Doc |
