NASB | Daniel 9:25 "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Daniel 9:25 "So you are to know and understand that from the issuance of the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until [the coming of] the Messiah (the Anointed One), the Prince, there will be seven weeks [of years] and sixty-two weeks [of years]; it will be built again, with [a city] plaza and moat, even in times of trouble. |
Bible Question:
I looked at this answer again and I'm still confused about why it would be broken down into 62 weeks and 7 weeks. If it took 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem, wouldn't it be broken down into 49 and 20 weeks? Can anyone clarify this or is it just one of those things Bible scholars don't agree on? thanks, Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Greetings Chusarcik! I'm not sure where you came up with 49 and 20 weeks my friend. The weeks referred to are weeks of 'years' or literally 'sevens'. If it took 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem from the issuing of the decree, that would be 7 'weeks'. Total time from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem until Christ was 483 years or 7 'weeks' plus 62 'weeks'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
