NASB | Daniel 9:24 ¶ "Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Daniel 9:24 ¶ "Seventy weeks [of years, or 490 years] have been decreed for your people and for your holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make atonement (reconciliation) for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness (right-standing with God), to seal up vision and prophecy and prophet, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. |
Bible Question: Please explain why the NASB reads "most holy place" (place in italics)...I've heard that it's because nowhere in the OT does the expression "most holy" ever refer to a person, is there more info someone can offer on this question. I've seen some take it as a reference to Christ's baptism. Tks |
Bible Answer: Hi Ray, Welcome to the forum! I don't know that I can speak for the NASB translators. However, note that the ESV translates it in the same way. Even the Latin Vulgate says "sanctum sanctorum" meaning the "holy holy-place." I could only find a single place where a human might be referred to to as "kodesh, kodesh" and that is Leviticus 27:28 -- but it is a bit of a stretch. Nevertheless, everywhere else kodesh kodesh refers to a thing or a place, but most frequently to the place known as the Holy of Holies. In Him, Doc |
