Bible Question: HOW DO I APPLY THIS VERSE TO MY LIFE |
Bible Answer: Dear Carlos - It's always better to view verses of Scripture in context, and the entire 36th chapter of Ezekiel is concerned with the future restoration of Israel. .... But, since your question is focused on vs. 26, let's look at it. Whereas this verse has to do with the new birth, or regeneration; and, whereas regeneration was then and is now within the province of God alone, it cannot therefore be construed as truly being a thing that man is empowered to apply himself to his life, but rather it is instead the salvation that God "applies" by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not of ourselves and not of works, but the gift of God. See Ephesians 2:8-9. Salvation is "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5). You might also want to examine John 3:5-7, Romans 8:9-11, and 1 Corinthians 12:3. Forgive my being a trifle pedantic in suggesting that instead of asking, "How do I apply this verse to my life?" it might be better phrased by asking, "How does this verse apply to my life?" Thanks so much, Carlos, for your question and for your active participation in Study Bible Forum. --Hank |
