AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jeremiah 8:8 ¶ "How can you say, 'We are wise, And the law of the LORD is with us [and we are learned in its language and teachings]'? Behold, [the truth is that] the lying pen of the scribes Has made the law into a lie [a mere code of ceremonial observances]. [Mark 7:13] |
Bible Question: In verse 8 we are asked a question; seeing events unfold as they have , is it not meant for us: we who think we are wise, we who decern and decide what God means; instead of just following as Paul taught and as Peter said to do. |
Bible Answer: Greetings J. Lord, Jeremiah 8:8 "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie." This is the very first verse in the Bible where the scribes are mentioned as a professional class. Here is a bit of commentary on this verse.. "8:8-9 law of the LORD ... word of the LORD. Misinterpreting and manipulating the first (the written law of Moses) leads to rejection of the second (God's truth as found in the law and proclaimed by His servants the prophets)." (1) "8:8 lying pen. Symbolizes mistreatment of the written law. scribes. The earliest mention of them as a recognizable group. They were apparently organized on the basis of families (see 1 Chr. 2:55; 2 Chr. 34:13). made it into a lie. Contrast 2 Tim. 2:15."
