AMPLIFIED 2015 Jeremiah 4:10 ¶ Then I said, "Alas, Lord GOD! Surely You have completely deceived and misled this people and Jerusalem, [for the prophets represented You as] saying [to Your people], 'You will have peace,' but [in fact] a sword reaches to their throat."

Bible Question:  Has the Lord greatly deceived and misled the people and Jerusalem? How? Why?

Or does Jeremiah mean something else?

Bible Answer:  Greetings Steve!

"Like Habakkuk (1:12-17), Jeremiah was horrified at these words of judgment, contrasting the prevailing hope of peace. God is sometimes described as if doing a thing He merely permits, such as allowing false prophets who delude themselves to also deceive a sinful people into thinking peace would follow (cf. 6:14; 8:11; 1 Kings 22:21-24). God sees how people insist on their delusions, and lets it happen." [MacArthur Study Bible]
