AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jeremiah 3:19 ¶ "Then I said, 'How [gloriously and honorably] I would set you among My children And give you a pleasant land--a wonderful heritage, The most beautiful inheritance of the nations!' And I said, 'You shall call Me, My Father And not turn away from following Me.' |
Bible Question: How do you interpret Jeremiah 3:19? Do you prefer the NASB or do you prefer the NKJ with its quotation marks around "My Father"? Who do you think is speaking here? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Jer 3:19 ... context vv 11ff ... Ray, Greetings. I am studying Jeremiah. I believe it is the Lord talking starting in verse 11. It is a message for Jeremiah to give to the north (vs 12). It is his desire that they call Him 'my Father' (vs 4). Isarel is His firstborn son (Exo 4:22). I do not think it is Jeremiah's desire to be called 'father' ... which would be the other choice. Quoation marks can be misleading. I don't think they have them in the Hebrew or Greek. Searcher |
