AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jeremiah 25:3 "For these twenty-three years--from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day--the word of the LORD has come to me and I have spoken to you over and over again, but you have not listened. |
Bible Question: Can anyone help me reinterpret Jeremiah 25:1-14 and Jeremiah 29:1-23 to Daniel 9: 1-27? I am doing a paper for my Major Prophets class, and I am having a little trouble. Thanks. |
Bible Answer: Hi Dalcia, I don't know what you mean by "reinterpret" but I can give you what I see as reoccuring themes for the passages. Jeremiah 24:10, "And (I) will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence upon them until they are destroyed from the land which I gave to them and their forefathers." Jeremiah 25:3, "...these twenty three years the word of the Lord has come to me, and I [Jeremiah] have spoken to you again and again, but you have not listened. And the Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets again and again, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear,...dwell on the land which the Lord has given you... and do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and do not provoke Me/ to anger... and I will do you no harm. Yet you have not listened to Me", declares the (Lord)... 1)Over and over again, and they do not listen. 2)The Lord has sent all His/ prophets again and again. 3)And they provoke Me/ to anger with the work of your hands. 4) Yet you have not listened to Me, declares the (Lord). Because they did not listen to the words of Jeremiah, which were actually the words of the Lord, the Lord was angry. When He is angry He sends the sword, the famine, and the pestilence. Jeremiah 25:30, "...He will roar mightily agains (His) fold. Jeremiah 25:37, "And the peaceful folds are made silent because of the fierce anger of the (Lord)." Jeremiah 25:10, "Moreover, (I) will take from them the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp." Jer 27:8; Jer 29:17, "thus says the Lord/ of host, Behold, I am sending upon them the sword, famine, and pestilence, and I will make them like split-open figs... and (I) will pursue them with the sword, with famine and with pestilence..." This anger is because they have not listened to His words. Jeremiah 29:19, "because they have not listened to My words,' declares the Lord, 'which I sent to them again and again by My/servants the prophets; but you did not listen,' declares the Lord." Jer 26:5, "to listen to the words of My/ servants the prophets, whom I have been sending to you again and again, but you have not listened; then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city (I) will make a curse to all the nations of the earth." In all of this there is the possibility of the Lord changing His mind about the misfortune which He has pronounced. See Jer 26:13 and 19. Jer 24:10, "(I) will send the sword." Jer 25:37, "...anger of the (Lord). Jer 29:20, "You, therefore, hear the word of the Lord, all you exiles, whom (I) have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon." Jeremiah 29:23, "because they have acted foolishly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken words in My/ name falsely, which I did not command them; and I am (He) who knows, and am a witness," declares the Lord." I hope this gets you started. Good luck with Daniel; I'm out of room.:)) From the heart, Ray |
