AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jeremiah 25:12 ¶ 'Then when seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans (Babylonia),' says the LORD, 'for their wickedness, and will make the land [of the Chaldeans] a perpetual waste. [Jer 29:10] |
Bible Question:
Why didn't the Babylonians pay attention to this prophecy? Why weren't the exiles more ready to leave? Why seventy years? |
Bible Answer: The people of Judah tied to kill Jerimiah for his prophecy.. It was not likely he would be any better received by the Babylonians for what he had to say about them. And that is assuming that they were even interested in the writings of a prophet of Judah. Ezra 1:5 Then the heads of fathers' households of Judah and Benjamin and the priests and the Levites arose, even everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem. Aside from gross idolatry, the seventy years of exile were related to the abuse of the sabbath in Judah as I recall. Ezek 13 |
