Subject: Where are these names written down? |
Bible Note: Hi Scribe, I was about to write to Mommapbs, to lead her to your suggested reference and also John 7:39. 1) I agree with your speculation of what was written down (in the earth). You quoted the King James, I like the NKJ as well, "Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters." The NASB for this verse does not have this pronoun (Me) nor the idea of it being written down in the earth. So where is the word of the Lord?/ Jeremiah 15:15. I think that we can agree that the word has always been "repent". And our comparison of these verses will have us hearing the words of Jesus, "Neither do I/ condemn you. From now on sin no more." John 8:11. 2) The other reference, Mommapbs, that is suggested in Jeremiah's talking of "living water" is John 7:38,29. It is the old question of whether the living water will flow from us or from the fountain, even the Lord. 3) Here is my comparison for what it is worth. Jeremiah 17:12ff, "A glorious throne on high from the beginning Is the place of our sanctuary. "O Lord, the *(Hope) of Israel, All who forsake Thee will be put to shame. Those who turn away from Me on earth will be written down [in the earth], Because they have forsaken the fountain of living water, even the Lord." John 7:37, "Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If any man is thirsty, let him come to (Me) and drink." 4) Jeremiah 14:7, "Although our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, act for Thy name's sake! Truly our apostasies have been many, we have sinned against (Thee). Thou Hope [sic] of Israel, its Savior in time of distress, Why art Thou like a stranger in the land Or like a traveler who has pitched his tent for the night? Why art Thou like a man dismayed, Like a mighty man who cannot save? Yet Thou/ art in our midst, O Lord, And we are called by Thy name; Do not forsake us!" 10 Thus says the (Lord) to this people, "Even so they have loved to wander; they have not kept their feet in check. Therefore the Lord does not accept them; now He will remember their iniquity and call their sins to account." Although people might say that Jesus was a man dismayed, or a mighty man who can not save, (Jer 14:9) when we look to the fountain of living water, even the Lord, we do indeed find healing and are saved. Jeremiah 17:14, "Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, for Thou art my praise." Parentheses are mine for comparison. I quote the NASB. We come to Jesus who is the Hope and consolation of Israel. From the heart, Ray |
