Bible Question: What is the significance of 'Horns of the Altar'? In 1Kin 1:15, Adonijah takes hold of the horns of the altar. In Psalms it is written - "Bind the sacrifice to the horns of the altar". Is there a connection to Jesus Christ and his death on the cross? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Johntelesoft! Here is a little bit of commentary on Jeremiah 17:1.. "17:1 The sin of Judah was so indelibly engraved even on the horns of their altars that atonement was now impossible." (1) "17:1 ... horns of their altars. The people of Judah have backslid so badly that their sins are engraved not only on their hearts but also on their altars- to be remembered by God rather than to be atoned for (see Lev. 16:18)." (2) "17:1 The sin of Judah. Reasons for the judgment (chapter 16) continue here: 1) idolatry (vv. 1-4), 2) relying on the flesh (v.5), and 3) dishonesty in amassing wealth (v.11). pen of iron. The names of idols were engraved on the horns of their altars with such a tool. The idea is that Judah's sin was permanent, etched in them as if into stone. ..."
