NASB | Isaiah 64:6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 64:6 For we all have become like one who is [ceremonially] unclean [like a leper], And all our deeds of righteousness are like filthy rags; We all wither and decay like a leaf, And our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing], like the wind, takes us away [carrying us far from God's favor, toward destruction]. Bible Note: Hi Starfire, All I can say is this: I am squeamish buying "those things" for my wife when she asks me to (I do it for her but I hate to) but I found no squeamishness in this thread, because it is a part of the Bible. And I really meant what I said, that you and Bows44 brought some good insights, things I would not have thought of simply reading this text by myself. You make a good point that God could have used as an example something more immediately repellent to everyone, but this example shows a more thorough analogy. I love that about the Bible, that it not only makes total sense on the surface, but continues to make total sense no matter how deeply you examine it. Thank you for your willingness to share with us, even such personal matters that most keep secret. Love in Christ, Mark |
