NASB | Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. |
Subject: Is healing guaranteed in the atonement? |
Bible Note: Hi Kalos, I want to say first that I agree with the majority of posters on this topic. Healing comes at God's discretion, not by our will, only as it serves His purposes. We will all be healed, perhaps now, and perhaps in the resurrection. I know that Paul said somewhere that the Holy Spirit had prevented him from a certain trip. Elsewhere we read that he couldn't make that trip because he was sick. I especially like your quote from Dr. Rhodes 'Am I saying we shouldn't pray for healing? No, not at all. I'm just saying that after we've asked for healing, we need to submit to God's sovereign will. He may have a purpose in allowing our illness.' With that said. . . Does not Matthew 8:17 let us know that Isaiah 53 is not only refering to spiritual healing, but also physical healing? Shoud we completely spiritualize the Isaiah 53 passage? Love in Christ, Mark |
