NASB | Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. |
Bible Question: I have heard people try to say that Is 53:5 means that if we have the faith, we are healed of all sickness. I take it to mean that we are healed from the death and punishment that we deserve and are given the gift of eternal life. What is your take on the verse? |
Bible Answer: Hi IreneB, Yes, I also think it is talking about spiritual healing. We were made in God's image, but through the fall and sin we have lost what was intended for us, that is to know God, enjoy fellowship with him, receiving love and comfort from him, but with this we also receive afflictions as he did. This hugh benefit to our soul is temporally what this healing is all about, and of course in eternity our consolation will endure forever. And to reflect his glory we must pass on what we have received to others, "Phil 2:1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, Phil 2:2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose." tortoise |
