NASB | Isaiah 53:10 ¶ But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:10 ¶ Yet the LORD was willing To crush Him, causing Him to suffer; If He would give Himself as a guilt offering [an atonement for sin], He shall see His [spiritual] offspring, He shall prolong His days, And the will (good pleasure) of the LORD shall succeed and prosper in His hand. |
Bible Question: I was listening to a sermon this morning about what God finds pleasurable. And the pastor was saying that God found pleasure in the bruising of Jesus. I missed what verse he was quoting from...does this sound familar? and what exactly does it mean? |
Bible Answer: Hi Samantha, The reference your looking for is found in Isaiah 53:10: "But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand." As to its' meaning, the Commentary Critical says, " Vs.10. Transition from His humiliation to His exaltation. Pleased the Lord—the secret of His sufferings. They were voluntarily borne by Messiah, in order that thereby He might “do Jehovah’s will” (Jn 6:38; Heb 10:7, 9), as to man’s redemption; so at the end of the verse, “the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”" I hope this helps, BradK |
