NASB | Isaiah 53:10 ¶ But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:10 ¶ Yet the LORD was willing To crush Him, causing Him to suffer; If He would give Himself as a guilt offering [an atonement for sin], He shall see His [spiritual] offspring, He shall prolong His days, And the will (good pleasure) of the LORD shall succeed and prosper in His hand. |
Bible Question:
I found my same questions (listed below) at a Jewish site regarding this passage, which included the information on the Hebrew word study for "seed" (or offspring) used in this passage. Any light would be appreciated. : 53:10 "He shall see his seed." The Hebrew word for "seed", used in this verse, always refers to physical descendants in our Jewish Scriptures. See, e.g., Gen. 12:7; Gen. 15:13; Gen. 46:6; Ex. 28:43. A different word, generally translated as "sons", is used to refer to spiritual descendants (see Deut. 14:1, e.g.). 53:10 "He will prolong his days." Not only did Jesus die young, but how could the days be prolonged of someone who is alleged to be God? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Star! Are you quoting some one else ("Not only did Jesus die young, but how could the days be prolonged of someone who is alleged to be God?") or are these your own words? If they are, does that mean that you do not believe that Jesus Christ is God? And if you do not believe that He is God, are you basing this on your findings on this thread? If this is the case I want to share with you a Scriptural passage that demonstrates that Jesus' contemporaries did understand that He revealed that He is God: For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:18) ...and through the prophects Yahweh made it known that His Son, the Emmanuel, would come to rescue His people (Israel), Isaiah 7:14; 9:16; 52:13 thru 53:12; 42:1-8; Joel 2:23-32; Malachi 3:1-9... Could go on forever... awaiting your reply! God Bless! Angel |
