AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 50:6 I turned My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not hide My face from insults and spitting. [Matt 26:67; 27:30; John 19:1] |
Bible Question: I have heard through the history channel that some artifacts have been found that show Jesus did not have a beard, Is this true. I thought I had read in the Bible where they plucked his beard. |
Bible Answer: Hello Sandra l, welcome to the forum. The only verse in the Bible that refers to Jesus as having a beard that I am aware of is Isaiah 50:6 “I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.” That prophecy would have been fulfilled by both the high priest’s guards and the Romans. Also, it was Jewish custom for a man to shave off his beard ONLY when in mourning. So to answer your question, yes, Jesus had a beard. Ocelot |
