Bible Question: Can someone explain to me the part "I make peace and create evil: I the Lord do all these things" What kind of evil did the Lord create, I always thought everything He created was "good". |
Bible Answer: Hi, Helen... The NASB translates this word as "calamity." What is meant here in Isaiah is national calamity. However, Scripture affirms that this can occur on a personal basis as well. Then said his wife unto him, "Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." But he said unto her, "Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?" In all this did not Job sin with his lips. (Job 2:9-10) According to Hebrews 12, adversity comes from the hand of God in order to conform the believer into the image of Christ. Only those who deny the Lord think that they will escape suffering (Psalm 10:6). Scripture clearly teaches that days of prosperity and days of adversity are both from Him (Ecclesiastes 7:14).
