NASB | Isaiah 38:8 "Behold, I will cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps." So the sun's shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 38:8 "Listen carefully, I will turn the shadow on the stairway [denoting the time of day] ten steps backward, the shadow on the stairway (sundial) of Ahaz." And the sunlight went ten steps backward on the stairway where it had [previously] gone down. |
Bible Question (short): Was time turned back 40 minutes? |
Question (full): In Bible Study this evening, we were reading Isaiah 38:8. Can anyone explain how long time was turned back in this verse? I quickly figured out that a sundial represents one day. Since a sundial is circular, I determined that it must be 360 degrees, which would mean 10 degrees represents 40 minutes. Is my logic flawed? Anyone have any thoughts on this? |
