Bible Question:
Hello Everyone, I'm new to the group and want to introduce myself. My name is Ellen and I'm 33 this month or rather next month (August). I have a question too. Right now in my life Iam completley dedicated to God. I have gone through so much the last couple of years and lost everything leaving me with the time to spend reading the gospel and praying. Iam a very shy person and do not have any income right now but I feel like I have to do something more in God's name or just plain get closer to him. I know nothing about ministry work and how that all works. Iam Catholic but it doesn't matter to me where or what church I'm helping. Iv called some churches about volunteer work and such and they said they have nothing. What can I do right now since Iam flat broke but have all the time in the world to do other things. Iam looking for a job but no such luck. However, Iam also in so much pain alot of the time though which makes a job hard. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and other pain disorders. But I still want to help. Any suggestions? How can I become closer to God? Besides fasting, bible reading, prayer and such. What about missionary work? Does anyone know anything about that? Thank you so much and God Bless. Ellen |
Bible Answer: God's day to you, Ellen, and welcome to the SBF, I see knowing God in my morning quiet time 1. Scripture meditation (Jos 1:8, Psa 1:2). The same word, hagah, is used elsewhere (Psa 35:28, 63:6, 71:24, 77:12, 143:5). Intensive from, higgayown, is seen in Psalm 19:14. This goes way beyond reading the Bible. It is even more than studying God’s Word. Meditation is as we go about our day, we bring it back up again what we studied/read that is in our mind and dwell on it again … sometimes it is nothing in particular, except by the Lord causing it. It can happen when we study/read another portion or when we hear its preaching. It should be natural, like a cow chews its cud. 2. Prayer (Mat 6:5-13). This is the Pattern Prayer. When you study the prayers in the Bible, do not forget what Jesus taught. Notice the list of the prayer and compare it with your list. I know more about Him, since my prayer is focused on Him … I mediate on what I found in His Word. 3. Sing praises (Jud 5:3: Psa 7:17, 9:2, 30:4,12, 61:8, 147.1, 149:3; Isa 42:10). When I sing praises to Him, I again meditate on Him. Searcher |
