Bible Question: It was taught at a conference that in Song of Solomon 2: 10-17, that Solomon(who represents Christ)called to his love (who represents the church) to come away with him. They said that she gave the excuse of the foxes in her vineyard and turned him away. Is this correct? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Pro 5:15-20, 6:24-29, 7:6-23; SoS 2:10-17 ... Kristi, greetings. "She gave the excuse of the foxes in her vineyard and turned him away" is not correct. It is the need to get rid of the foxes, so they do not ruin the vineyards, which may be the lover's phyiscal beuaty (1:6). Song of Solomon has been seen as an allegory between Christ and the church, as well as Christ and a soul and God and Israel. - There is no Scriptural support for any of these. - Also, what is said in this book includes phyiscal intimacy, which is not how I picture Christ and the church. Read Proverbs 5:15-20, 6:24-29 and 7:6-23. Do you see that this is better seen as a wedding song? Compare Song of Solomon 8:6-7 with Proverbs 1-9 and Job 28. Do you see that love is a gift of God and it is wisdom's description of an armorous relationship? Source: NIV Study Bible Now go to the speaker and challenge them on what they said.
